Here’s the FISH mission:
Increase conservation awareness through educational programming, outdoor exploration and exhibits at the Governor Tommy Thompson Hatchery.
We’re reaching beyond the Hatchery building now. Partly because COVID-19 has forced us to close our doors to visitors. But also because the first three items lend themselves well to the Internet

So let’s get going. We need you.
You’re passionate about fishing, but love people just as much. You love to show people the fun of learning new skills or brushing up on stuff they once knew and the thrill of just giving it a shot. You can give clear instructions in step-by-step photos with written instructions or videos with voice-over.
- How to set up tackle boxes for specific types of fishing
- How to clean specific types of fish
- How to rig a fishing pole — again different types of fishing
- How to choose the right bait
- How to find nightcrawlers
Each of the above topics could have many sub-topics.
Yep. Writing. There are as many fishing stories as there are anglers. Now, we’re not saying that every one of our bloggers has to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. This IS fishing, after all. But, we’d like stories that have at least a kernel of truth to them. The ones that have a bit of a lesson wouldn’t be bad either. And, even better if there’s a picture to go with the story.
Now, does this sound like the most uninteresting job in the world? Nope. Not when you get to Search the World for Fish Facts. We need someone to sort through the plethora of published documents, books, film, video, podcasts, letters. Anything reliable about fishing, fish, ichthyology, water, water creatures, fish research, humor, anecdotes, stories, history, photos, drawings, . . . well, you get the picture and get that stuff linked on our website. You love unearthing little-known facts, whether through Google or some deep online reservoir in a respected institute of higher education.
You’ve created YouTube channels before and know how to promote the FISH mission above. We want everyone to fish because it’s good for them and makes them aware that there’s a big natural world out there. That means everyone between age 3 and 103. You know how to appeal to everyone in every demographic with a channel that includes and encourages. We’re looking for subscribers, not so much to sell something, but to offer a lifetime of memories and wholesome outdoor fun.
Social Media Manager:
You know how to get Everything Posted Everywhere and manage all the questions and comments that come in from all the channels. Always making sure that all the channels stay on topic, off politics, upbeat, positive and all-inclusive. You check facts, route questions to the right people and never let anyone fall through the cracks. You rock.
You know how to illustrate what’s difficult to put into words. Images flow from your brain through your fingers and the result speaks a thousand words. Sometimes they’re fun and whimsical, sometimes inspirational. Our mission is to educate everyone and make them feel good about the natural world around them. Especially fish. 🙂
